30 DAYS OF READING, HEARING & SPEAKING GODS TRUTH; COURAGE, DAY 28

30 days of reading, hearing, and speaking God’s truth into our lives; courage!

Welcome to day 28!

I am so excited about today’s topic, COURAGE…….

As we are nearing the end of our journey, I want to encourage us all to be courageous, especially for Jesus! Over the last few weeks you have received lots of my thoughts, but today want to share a fresh perspective!

This is so good I had to pass it on to you! These thoughts and the Lion-Chaser’s Manifesto are not my own. They come from Mark Batterson, author of In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day. You can learn more about him, his work, and books here! Another great read!

COURAGEOUSLY CHASING LIONS

His thought comes from 2 Samuel 23:20-23. Benaniah’s life is summed up in three scriptures. These three scriptures tell us enough to know that He was courageous. He didn’t run, but chased a Lion!

I love the idea of chasing lions, because it’s scary, a bit crazy, and for sure uncomfortable. I think it is safe to say, chasing lions is way out of all our comfort zones. Right? However, as I look back on my life, some of my biggest regrets are the things I ran from because I didn’t have enough courage. This story and Batterson’s thoughts on chasing Lions really spoke to me, which is why I am sharing it with you!

A bit from his book, GUTSINESS AND GODLINESS

This may not sound very academic, but I believe that one of the most under-appreciated dimensions of spiritual maturity is good old-fashioned guts. Gutsiness, which manifests in different ways, is a big part of following Christ. It’s challenging the status quo. Daring to be different. Refusing to play things safe. Think about it: no one was more gutsy than Jesus. He wasn’t afraid of offending powerful religious leaders. He defied social mores by reaching out to touch lepers-some of society’s  most reviled outcasts-and restored their dignity. Unconcerned about His reputation, He boldly befriended and defended prostitutes, tax collectors, and outsiders who came to Him looking for a new life.

It takes courage to step out in faith. It take courage to say YES to Jesus. The things He places on our hearts and calls us to do are not always easy. Not always comfortable. They require trust. They require great courage!

A Lion-Chaser’s MANIFESTO, by Mark Batterson.

  1. I WILL quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death.
  2. I WILL quit focusing on self-preservation and be willing to take risks.
  3. I WILL quit trying to be who I’m not and start being myself.
  4. I WILL quit holding out or holding back.
  5. I WILL quit running away.
  6. I WILL burn new bridges and blaze new trails.
  7. I WILL NOT let what’s wrong with me keep me from worshiping what’s right about God.
  8. I WILL go after the dream He’s given me that’s “God-sized” enough to fail without Him.
  9. I WILL stop complaining and find creative ways to become part of the solution.
  10. I WILL step out of my comfort zone and value every experience-even the difficult ones.
  11. I WILL worry less about what people think and more about what God thinks.
  12. I WILL follow Him wherever He leads me.

AMAZINGNESS, RIGHT!

Dear friends together let’s live bold lives for ourselves, those closest to us, & mostly for our Savior, Jesus Christ!

Thinking of you all & praying that God would not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind!
